This is our most challenging tour (with a difficulty rating of 5/5). You need to be a very fit and experienced cyclist, comfortable with long days, significant climbing, and riding at very high altitudes (often above 3,500m, reaching over 5,200m).
The itinerary is designed with gradual acclimatization in mind. We start at a lower altitude in Nyingchi (around 2,800m) and gradually increase elevation over several days. Rest days and careful pacing are also key. It’s still crucial to be aware of altitude sickness symptoms.
Weather in Tibet can be extreme and change rapidly, especially at high altitudes. Expect significant temperature swings, from potentially warm days to very cold conditions (-3°C to 38°C mentioned in tour info). Packing layers is essential.
A Tibet Travel Permit is required, in addition to a Chinese visa for most nationalities. Thailand Cycle Tours will assist with the Tibet Travel Permit application process as part of the tour package.
A well-maintained road bike suitable for climbing is essential. You can bring your own Bike. The terrain is paved, but conditions can vary.
