This cycling tour takes you from Bangkok, Thailand, through Laos, and into Vietnam, culminating in the historic city of Hanoi. Experience ancient history at Phimai Ancient Park, pedal along the Mekong River, see terraced rice fields, and be captivated by dramatic karst landscapes.

Arrive in Bangkok and make your way to the Mode Sathorn Hotel. The day is free for you to explore this exciting city. For those arriving a day earlier, an optional full-day city tour and Skylane bike excursion is available.

Day 02 :
Bangkok - Phimai (40 km, 174m ascent)

Meet your guide and team at 7 AM for a 3-hour van transfer to Phimai. After lunch and hotel check-in, we will get your bike fitted before visiting the historical Phimai park. Then, enjoy a picturesque 40 km ride through scenic farmlands, with dinner in the charming historical town.

Setting off at 8 AM, we journey along idyllic farmer roads. You will pedal through picturesque landscapes of vibrant rice paddies towards the town of Ban Phai. After lunch, there is an option to take the van if you prefer not to cycle the full distance.

Today ride takes us through villages, offering a glimpse into the authentic lives of local farmers and past sprawling plantations. A notable stop will be at the Kam Dam Bridge, a wooden crossing over a serene lake where we will have lunch, before continuing to our lodging in Roi Et.

Today we ride along a profoundly scenic road, graced by charming old wooden Thai houses. The path meanders along rice paddies, gradually becoming undulating with rolling hills. A riverbank sets the stage for lunch, before we reach Sakhon Nakhon town, nestled by a lake.

Sakhon Nakhon - Nakhon Phanom (Rest Day)

A well-deserved rest day. The morning includes some exciting excursions. Later, a 1.5-hour transfer takes us to Nakhon Phanom, where our hotel is located by the Mekong River and clock tower. Enjoy leisure time in the afternoon and explore the nearby night market in the evening.

Nakhon Phanom - Nakay Neua (113 km, 918m ascent)

Today, our journey takes us across the border from Thailand to Laos (visa required). We start with an exhilarating bike ride along the Mekong River cycle path to the border. On the Laos side, pedal through enchanting karst landscapes, with a notable climb, before a breathtaking 30 km ride along a car-free road skirting a serene lake to our guesthouse.

Our ride today marks entry into the third country: Vietnam (visa required). We cycle along the lakeside, then climb uphill to the Laos-Vietnam border. The mountain pinnacle on the Vietnam side offers breathtaking panoramas, setting the stage for a thrilling 20 km downhill descent to our resort.

Thanh Hoa - Hanoi (Tam Coc Cave)

In the morning, our team will pack the bikes before departing around 8:00–9:00 AM for a one-hour transfer to Ninh Binh. There, we will visit Tam Coc, famous for its scenic “three caves,” explored by boat through stunning limestone landscapes.

After the boat tour, we will enjoy lunch before continuing with a two-hour transfer to Hanoi. We expect to arrive in Hanoi at approximately 3:00 PM, with the rest of the day free for you to explore the city at your leisure.

We took the 6 day Self Guided Tour from Hua Hin in Thailand. Lucien and Suthara took care of all the planning, providing us with good quality bikes (one hybrid, one e-bike), a full set of gpx files for navigation, and some excellent resorts to stay in each night. We also had him organise daily forwarding of our luggage (this was part of a bigger trip). All the arrangements worked seamlessly. The cycling is not of itself particularly demanding for anyone accustomed to the distances involved but we did find the heat draining. Road surfaces range from decent tarmac roads to gravel tracks and everything in between as you are out in open countryside most of the time. A great way to see Thailand beyond the tourist traps.
