Welcome to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Luang Prabang. Today is free for you to explore the old town, wander through its ancient temples, or climb Phousi Hill for a magical sunset view.
Optional Extra: For guests arriving a day earlier, we offer a 40 km countryside bike tour (8:00–13:00). This requires an additional night in Luang Prabang.
Your adventure begins with a scenic cycling route of 40 km on mixed paved and gravel roads. We stop at Ban Xang Hai Village, known for its silk and cotton weaving and traditional Lao Rice Whiskey. From here, we continue cycling along the Mekong before boarding a boat to visit the mystical Pak Ou Caves, filled with thousands of Buddha statues. The day ends with a riverside stay at Nalou Resort.
Cycle along scenic rice fields and farmland before reaching the dam. Here, we embark on a 1.5-hour boat ride to Nong Khiaw, one of the most beautiful towns in Northern Laos. On the way, we visit a remote mountain village and experience the warm hospitality of the locals. Enjoy two nights at a riverside resort in Nong Khiaw.
Today we take a boat further north for an unforgettable 8 km hike through rice terraces and jungle paths. Our destination is the refreshing Tad Mok Waterfall. Along the way, enjoy a coffee stop in the rice fields and lunch in a unique local café. Afterward, cruise back by boat through towering limestone mountains and visit a traditional rural village to experience authentic Lao culture.
Spend the morning at leisure in Nong Khiaw, with the option to hike to a panoramic viewpoint or simply relax by the river. At 11:00, we take a 1.5-hour boat ride, followed by a van transfer back to Luang Prabang. End of tour.
This tour is suitable for riders with a moderate fitness level and a sense of adventure. Daily cycling distances range from 40–55 km, with elevation gains between 350–560 meters. The routes include a mix of paved roads, gravel tracks, and rolling countryside terrain. While some climbs can be challenging, regular stops, support vehicles, and the option of an E-Bike make the tour accessible to a wide range of cyclists. The hiking day involves an 8 km trek through rice terraces and jungle pat
Experience the authentic heart of Northern Laos through a unique combination of cycling, hiking, and boat journeys. Highlights include exploring the UNESCO town of Luang Prabang, visiting the sacred Pak Ou Caves, tasting traditional Lao Rice Whiskey in Ban Xang Hai Village, hiking through rice terraces to Tad Mok Waterfall, and connecting with remote mountain communities rarely visited by tourists.
The tour follows a mix of quiet paved roads, scenic gravel tracks, and rural village routes. Traffic is generally light outside of Luang Prabang, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful landscapes at a relaxed pace. Some gravel sections may be uneven or dusty depending on weather conditions, but they are well suited for both Gravel Bikes and E-Bikes. Support vehicles are available during cycling stages, and the route is designed to prioritize safety, scenery, and authentic local experiences over busy main roads.
Absolutely. The tour includes visits to traditional villages, weaving communities, mountain settlements, and authentic cultural encounters away from the main tourist routes.
We absolutely loved every moment of our road cycling tour through Southern Thailand. From start to finish, the experience was outstanding. Just like on our Bangkok–Phuket tour a few years ago, this trip was full of fun, fascinating moments, and authentic insights into the country and its people.
Special highlight was our German guide Franz, who led the group with great professionalism, confidence, and true cycling expertise – we always felt safe and in excellent hands.
Our Thai guide Tick and his team were fantastic. Tick shared so much interesting knowledge about Thailand and made sure we enjoyed amazing local food every day. The support team was always immediately there when needed – whether for a flat tire or any other issue. It often felt like even the smallest request was taken care of before you could even finish mentioning it. The level of service was simply incredible.
We return home with unforgettable memories and are already thinking about booking our next tour.
A big thank you 🙏🏻 to the entire Thailand Cycle Tours team – highly recommended!

I booked the Hua Hin Explorer Tour for my parents. It was their first time cycling in Thailand and all I heard from them was how amazing everything was. The guides, the bikes, the accommodations and the tour itself was all planned perfectly and they will for sure come back for more trips! Thanks for taking good care of them!

We took the 6 day Self Guided Tour from Hua Hin in Thailand. Lucien and Suthara took care of all the planning, providing us with good quality bikes (one hybrid, one e-bike), a full set of gpx files for navigation, and some excellent resorts to stay in each night. We also had him organise daily forwarding of our luggage (this was part of a bigger trip). All the arrangements worked seamlessly.
The cycling is not of itself particularly demanding for anyone accustomed to the distances involved but we did find the heat draining. Road surfaces range from decent tarmac roads to gravel tracks and everything in between as you are out in open countryside most of the time.
A great way to see Thailand beyond the tourist traps.
